Ark of the Covenant In the Tabernacle that was used in the wilderness for the people of God, there were two main rooms in the middle of it. One was called the Holy place and the other room was the most Holy place or the Holy of Holies. The ark was the only piece of furniture that was in the Holy of Holies. It contained the 10 commandments (the word of God),the rod that Aaron had. God caused the rod wich was dead to come back to life and bud and had Almonds on it. It was God's way of showing the people who he chose to be High Priest. And also in the Ark was a golden pot of manna. Manna was the bread that came down from heaven every day to feed the people. Now on top of the Ark were two Cherubim, and the Cherubim stretched out there wings and covered a place on top of the Ark called the Mercy Seat. The Mercy seat was a place where God said he would speak and it was the place where the High Priest would sprinkle blood once a year for the sins of the people. Heb 9:3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holy of holies; Heb 9:4 having a golden altar of incense, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was a golden pot holding the manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; Heb 9:5 and above it cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy-seat; There are several types of Arks in the bible, but they all bring salvation and are covered by the mercy of God. The fullness of the revelation of the meaning of the true Ark is in the story of the risen Christ. Joh 20:11 But Mary was standing without at the tomb weeping: so, as she wept, she stooped and looked into the tomb; Joh 20:12 and she beholdeth two angels in white sitting, one at the head, and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. This was the true mercy seat of God with one angel at the foot and one at the head, sitting where the atonement of our sins were laid. Christ is the Ark of the Covenant which contains the word, the bread, the rod of the high priest. Thank God for his great mercy. Amen |
